Barnes, Caleb Countertenor
Caleb, 18 (May 26, 1991), is a freshman vocal performance major at The University of Southern California. Under Shigemi Matsumoto, his voice teacher for more than four years, Caleb has won awards and scholarships through Opera Buffs, The Classical Singers Association, Young Musicians Foundation, Classical Singer Magazine, and The Fe Bland Institute. Recently, he was the only counter tenor ever to perform on the nationally syndicated radio and television program, From the Top. In 2008 he won first prize in the Music Center’s Spotlight Awards for classical voice. Then in 2009, he was cast in the role of “Jaffett” for LA Opera’s production of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde. At the Aspen Music Festival and School, Caleb performed scenes from Handel’s Theadora and Giulio Cesare. In 2007 and 2008 Caleb was chosen to study with world renown mezzo-soprano, Dolora Zajick, at her Institute for Young Dramatic voices. Caleb just entered USC as a Freshman in the USC/Thornton School of Music.
